NAMAKWALAND FLOWERS

DAY 1 – Namakwa Flowers

08H00: Pick up clients at Naries, Retreat, Okiep Country Hotel and Namaqua Tourism info Centre. Depart for Goegap Nature Reserve. This Reserve hosts 600 indigenous flower species throughout the year. Visiting the Hester Malan Wild Flower Garden and discover 581 indigenous plants species that can be found here. We do a circular route and guest can experience the park’s abundant fauna and flora with its tranquility and isolation. The Reserve is also home to 45 mammal species including Springbok, Gemsbok and Hartmann’s Zebra.

14H00: We depart for Namaqua National Park via Kamieskroon. We will make regular stops along the way for morning tea and lunch. The Namaqua National Park consist of an area about 103 000 ha and is home to the richest bulb flora of any arid area region in the world, and more than a 1000 of its estimated 3500 plant species are found nowhere else on earth. After driving through, taking photos, walking through flowers we continue via Kamieskroon to Okiep.

Guests must arrange for their own Lunch. Cold drinks will be served on regular stop breaks.

DAY 2 – Shipwrecks on Diamond Coast

We travel in a 4×4 vehicle throughout the Namaqua region looking at our beautiful flowers. We drive through the Spektakel pass to Kommagas from where we drive to Koingnaas. Our shipwreck tour will start from here and is about 37 km long. This is a 6 hour day trip along the coastline where we discuss the Geology, Archaeology, History, All aspects of the natural vegetation and wildlife. We stop often to examine the smaller and scarce plants of the region; birding is also an option as well as photographic type tours.

Guests must arrange for their own Lunch. Cold drinks will be served on regular stop breaks.

DAY 3/4 – Ai- Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park

06H00: We depart for Sendelingsdrift via Steinkoph, Port Nolloth, take a look around at diamond boats in harbour. I will explain and depart for Alexanderbay founded in 1836 and named after Sir Edward Alexander. From here we drive to Sendelingsdrif visiting Cornellskop and the Wondergat/Hole where the fore farther ghost of Heitsi Eibib lives in the form of a big snake with a large diamond on its head and guards over diamonds in the area. I will explain.

13H00: Lunch will be served with soft drinks and bottled water.
14H00: We visit the Petroglyphs at Bloeddrift dated back 10 000’s of years ago. From here we drive to Sendelingsdrift, check in and stay in chalets on the banks of the mighty Orange River. Occasionally you will hear the call of a Fish Eagle and see them on tops of trees.

Accommodation in chalets: Dinner: Braai with roosterbrood and salads.

DAY 4 – Richtersveld
We continue exploring the Richtersveld driving past the Halfmens pass looking at the wonderful scenery, plants and birdlife. We may even encounter some game such as Springbok, Gemsbok & Klipspringer. We depart for the Hand of God, passing the Akkedis pass looking at wonderful scenery driving through Domrogh pass to Helskloof.

13H00: Have lunch under a tree

We travel back to Okiep via the Helskloof Gate back to Alexander bay and Port Nolloth. If there is enough time, we can go in to view some Flamingos’ and other birds at the Orange River Mouth a Wetlands and RAMSAR site. The Orange River Estuary is renowned for its prolific birdlife, with over 75 000 species of water birds. This is an excellent spot for angling. From here we drive back to Springbok.
